Butler’s Orchard’s Field Trips in the Summer & Fall are fantastic opportunities for larger groups to take an outing to the Farm! Try picking your own seasonal crop, enjoy a visit to the pumpkin patch, or visit our neighbors at Doc Waters Cidery for an apple picking experience!
Field trips are fantastic not just for school groups, but also summer camps, daycare groups, birthday parties, assisted care facilities, and so much more! If you have a group of 20 or more, this is for you!
Our Summer Pick Your Own Field Trips are perfect for groups wanting to get a taste of the Farm- literally! Summer Field Trips are focused on picking our seasonal crops and enjoying the Farm Park, and are great for groups of all ages & skill levels.
2024 Dates and Times
• June 4 through August 23
• Tuesday through Friday
• Time slots are every half hour from 9:30am to 3:30pm (please plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to your reservation time to ensure a smooth check-in!)
What’s Included?
• Pick the crop of the season
◦ June: Strawberries or Blueberries
◦ July: Blueberries, Blackberries, Flowers or Potatoes
◦ August: Blackberries, Flowers, Raspberries, Potatoes, Cherry Tomatoes or Sweet Peppers
• Learn about our Farm and crops from a Butler’s employee while on a private, tractor-driven trolley ride
• Enjoy full access to our 5 acre Farm Park, including the giant slides, wooden playground area, and farm animals (pigs, donkeys, sheep, goats & chickens)
• Use our tables in the Farm Park for a picnic with your group!
Important Info
Summer Field Trips are for groups of at least 20 people, including all teachers & chaperones. Our picking fields are also open to the public, and you do not have to be part of a large group to pick at Butler’s Orchard. Individuals & smaller groups are welcome to come anytime during our seasonal picking hours. Please visit the Pick Your Own page for more information.
Online reservations can be made using the button below. Select “Pick Your Own Group Outings” on the Reservations calendar. No payment is necessary to make your reservation, though it will ask for a billing address in case we need to mail an invoice or refund check.
You will pay on the day of your event for the final number of people in the group. The minimum due is $200 (20 people @ $10 each). You may use cash, school check or credit card. We do not accept purchase orders as payment. If possible, please collect all money in advance and make one payment for your group.
If your group requires an invoice prior to your visit, please contact our office as soon as you make your reservation. Any refunds (i.e. overpayment using school check) are processed through our office only, and will be sent to the issuing institution at the address on the original check.
Arrival Information
IMPORTANT NOTE: Groups arriving via bus should approach Butler’s Orchard via Route 27 (Ridge Road) directly to Davis Mill Road. Avoid Bring Road and Wildcat Road if possible due to dangerous curves. Please take a look at our Map and Directions. PLEASE share this information with your bus drivers.
Groups should plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to their reservation time. Upon arrival, groups should follow signs to the FARM PARK. There is no need to stop at the Farm Market.
Chaperones not riding on your bus should plan to arrive on the Farm at the same time as the main group so your group can begin together. If they are late, they may not be able to participate in the picking activity with the main group! They will be able to join their group once they return to the Farm Park.
All vehicles will park in our general parking lot at the Farm Park. There is no parking fee. Once parked, your group will board a trolley for your tour and ride to the fields where you will have the picking portion of your visit. Once the group has finished picking, you will return to the Farm Park. If your group arrives more than 15 minutes after your scheduled reservation time, your access to the Farm Park may be delayed while we accommodate other groups.

Our Fall Pumpkin Patch Field Trips are made for groups ready to see growing in action! Fall Field Trips are focused on the life cycle of a pumpkin, picking your own pumpkin, and visiting our Farm Park. They are great for groups of all ages, but especially for elementary or early middle school aged children.
2024 Dates and Times
• September 25-November 8, excluding Friday, October 18th
• Wednesday through Friday (The Farm is closed on Mondays, and Field Trips are not available on Tuesdays or Friday, October 18th)
• Reservation times are the start of an arrival window:
◦ 9am (arrive anytime between 9-10am)
◦ 10am (arrive anytime between 10-11am)
◦ 11am (arrive anytime between 11am-12pm)
Note: At 1:00pm September 25 – November 1, our weekday Pumpkin Festival begins and the Farm is open to the General Public until 6:00pm. You are welcome to overlap your Field Trip during this time but please be aware that the Hayride will no longer stop at the Pumpkin Patch after 1:00pm. Friday, October 18th will be a full weekday Festival and Field Trips will not be available.
What’s Included?
Field Trips are self-guided, and all activities run continuously. You may do any activity in any order, but we do encourage you to take the hayride to the pumpkin patch when you first arrive. Please allow at least 2 1/2 hours to enjoy all the activities!
• Take a hayride down the trail to our Pumpkin Patch
• Pick your own small pumpkin from the patch to take home!
• Receive a copy of the Pumpkin Post, an educational coloring & activity page about the life cycle of a pumpkin
• Enjoy full access to our 5 acre Farm Park, including the giant slides, wooden playground area, mazes, hayloft, farm animals (pigs, donkeys, sheep, goats & chickens), and more!
• Use our tables in the Farm Park for a picnic with your group! You may bring lunches, or our Farmer’s Porch Kitchen will be open for purchasing food (If you schedule your trip November 6, 7 or 8, please note that the Farmer’s Porch will not be open for food service on these days. Feel free to bring a picnic!)
Note: Our hayride to the pumpkin patch is not wheelchair accessible. We want to make sure that every visitor receives their pumpkin so please inform our staff if you need additional pumpkins!

The Orchard at Doc Waters Cidery is home to over 30 different varieties of apples, and is the perfect spot for your Apple Picking Field Trips!

• 1/4 peck bag for each participant to fill with fresh picked apples from our orchard
• Learning about our Orchard and the growing process from an Orchard employee
• You are welcome to stay and picnic, we have lots of picnic tables!
• If you reserve a trip September 6-15, you are welcome to travel to Butler’s Orchard’s Farm Park after your time at Doc Waters to enjoy their Farm Park (playground equipment, farm animals, etc.). Butler’s Orchard is approximately 2 miles away from Doc Waters. Trips scheduled on these dates ONLY are able to visit the Butler’s Orchard Farm Park. There is no play area at Doc Waters.

Reservations can be made by paying for your group in full via credit card. Any adjustments to your numbers on the day of will either be charged or refunded (unless you go below the 20 person minimum, in which case you will be charged for 20 people).
